What Affects the Cost of Skip Hire?
Where the skip goes. Our prices assume the skip will sit on private land such as a driveway. If it needs to go on the road, a skip licence from the council is required, and the cost of this varies between councils. Our guide to skip permits in Surrey, Sussex and Kent explains how this works in each area.
How long you need it. The standard hire period is 14 days. If you need the skip for longer, we can extend the hire or provide a bespoke quote, as explained in our guide on how long you can keep a skip.
What goes in it. General household, garden and building waste is covered by the standard price. Some items, such as mattresses, fridges, televisions and plasterboard, can only be accepted by prior arrangement because they have to be handled separately, and this can affect the cost. Our guide on what you can put in a skip lists these items.
Choosing the right size. Hiring a skip that is too small can mean paying for a second one, while a skip that is too big means paying for space you do not use. For heavy waste such as soil and rubble, a smaller builder's skip is often the better choice, as our guide to skip weight limits explains.
How to Keep Skip Hire Costs Down
Book the right size first time, keep restricted items out of the skip and avoid overfilling, as a skip that is loaded above the sides cannot be collected safely. Breaking down furniture and loading flat items first helps you fit more in, and covering the skip overnight stops neighbours and passers-by from filling it with their own rubbish. If you would rather not fill a skip at all, our removals service may work out cheaper for smaller loads, as you only pay for the waste we take away.
Getting a Quote
Every job is a little different, so the quickest way to get an exact price is to tell us the size you need, where the skip will go and roughly what you are getting rid of. You can request a skip hire quote online and we will come back to you with a clear price, with no hidden extras added later.
