How Much Does a 2 Yard Skip Actually Hold?

A 2 cubic yard skip may be our smallest skip, but it can still take a useful amount of waste. As a practical guide, you can expect to fit roughly 20 standard household bin bags into a 2 yard mini skip, depending on how bulky the contents are and how efficiently the skip is loaded.

Another useful comparison is around 9 wheelbarrow loads of waste. This makes the 2 yard skip a good choice when you have more rubbish than is practical to take away in your car, but nowhere near enough to justify one of our larger builders' skips.

2 Yard Skip Dimensions

Our 2 cubic yard skip has compact dimensions that make it particularly useful for homes where space is limited:

  • Length: 1.2 metres / 4 feet
  • Width: 0.91 metres / 3 feet
  • Height: 0.76 metres / approximately 2 feet 6 inches
  • Capacity: 1.5 cubic metres / 2 cubic yards
  • Approximate waste capacity: around 20 standard bin bags

Will a 2 Yard Skip Fit on My Driveway?

In most cases, a 2 yard mini skip is an excellent option for a standard domestic driveway. At only around 4 feet long and 3 feet wide, the skip itself takes up considerably less room than a typical car.

Remember that the skip is only part of the equation. Our delivery vehicle still needs sufficient access to reach the position where you want the skip placed. Gates, parked vehicles, low branches, narrow entrances and other obstructions should therefore be taken into account before delivery. Our skip delivery preparation guide has further advice.

What Jobs Is a 2 Yard Mini Skip Good For?

This size is particularly useful for focused jobs where the amount of waste is relatively small. Typical uses include:

  • Small garden tidy-ups
  • Clearing a shed or small storage area
  • Minor DIY and decorating projects
  • Small bathroom strip-outs
  • Removing a limited quantity of soil or rubble
  • Decluttering a room, loft or garage
  • Getting rid of general household rubbish during a clear-out

If you are stripping out an entire kitchen, clearing several rooms or carrying out a larger renovation, a bigger skip will usually offer better value and save you from filling a small skip too quickly. See our skip size guide if you are unsure.

What Can I Put in a 2 Yard Skip?

The size of the skip does not change the rules about what can be placed inside it. A standard 2 yard skip can be used for many common non-hazardous waste materials, including:

  • General household rubbish
  • Garden waste
  • Soil and rubble
  • Bricks and small quantities of building debris
  • Timber and wood
  • Scrap metal
  • Non-hazardous DIY and renovation waste

What Cannot Go in the Skip?

Some materials need separate arrangements and should not simply be added to a general waste skip. Items including plasterboard, mattresses, electrical equipment, fridges, freezers and car batteries may require prior agreement or additional disposal arrangements.

Hazardous materials such as gas cylinders, tyres, clinical waste, solvents, liquids, oil and other hazardous or toxic substances must not be placed in a standard skip. Asbestos requires specialist handling and a separate arrangement.

If you are unsure about a particular material, check our guide to what you can put in a skip or contact Taylors Skip Hire before loading it. It is much easier to check beforehand than to deal with prohibited materials when the skip is collected.

Small Skip, Useful Amount of Space

The 2 yard skip works best when you have a clearly defined small job. Think of it as roughly 20 bin bags or around 9 wheelbarrow loads rather than simply trying to visualise "two cubic yards". For garden jobs, smaller DIY projects, shed clear-outs and modest household clearances, that can be exactly the amount of space you need.

If your project starts growing and you think 20 bin bags will not be enough, take a look at our midi skips before booking. Choosing the right size at the beginning is generally easier than discovering halfway through the job that you needed more capacity.
