The 10 cubic yard skip is where capacity becomes the main attraction. Designed for customers with a large amount of bulky waste, it provides noticeably more room than an 8 yard builder's skip and can reduce the need for repeated collections during bigger household, commercial and refurbishment projects.

This is an excellent choice for large property clear-outs, office refurbishments, bulky household waste and lighter renovation materials. However, bigger does not mean suitable for every waste type. Our 10 yard skip has a two-tonne weight limit, so it should not be treated as an oversized skip for loads of soil, rubble or hardcore.

Think Around 80 to 100 Bin Bags

Ten cubic yards is much easier to understand when translated into something familiar. As a practical guide, a 10 yard skip can accommodate approximately 80 to 100 standard household bin bags of suitable waste, depending on what you are loading and how efficiently the available space is used.

It is particularly effective for bulky materials. Dismantled furniture, packaging, timber, household contents and lighter refurbishment waste can consume the space in a smaller skip surprisingly quickly, which is where the extra capacity becomes useful.

What Is a 10 Yard Skip Best Used For?

The 10 yard skip works particularly well when the main problem is volume rather than weight. Jobs that frequently suit this size include:

Can I Put Soil, Rubble or Hardcore in a 10 Yard Skip?

This is one of the most important differences between the 10 yard skip and our smaller builder's skips. Large quantities of soil, rubble, concrete and hardcore are not suitable for this size.

Dense materials become extremely heavy very quickly. The additional volume of a 10 yard container means that filling it with heavy inert waste could take the load beyond safe or legal transport limits. Our 10 yard skip therefore has a two-tonne weight limit, with additional charges applying if the agreed limit is exceeded.

If your project is predominantly producing bricks, concrete, soil or hardcore, a smaller skip designed for heavy waste may be more appropriate. Our 8 cubic yard skip is the larger option to consider for suitable heavy loads.

How Big Is a 10 Yard Skip?

A 10 yard skip is a substantial container and requires more space than the smaller domestic sizes in our range. Before ordering, make sure there is enough room for both the skip itself and the delivery vehicle.

Do not judge access solely by whether the container will physically fit on the driveway. Our skip lorry also requires suitable width, overhead clearance and manoeuvring space to position and retrieve the skip safely.

Will a 10 Yard Skip Fit on My Driveway?

A 10 yard skip can be positioned on many larger private driveways and commercial yards, but this is not a size where we recommend guessing. Measure the available area and consider vehicle access before you book.

If your driveway is restricted or you are uncertain about the proposed position, speak to us first. We can discuss your access and help you avoid ordering a container that cannot be safely delivered to the intended location.

The extra space in a 10 yard skip does not change the rules surrounding specialist waste. Please speak to us before disposing of materials such as plasterboard, mattresses, fridges, freezers, televisions, monitors, computers or car batteries.

These materials can require different processing, an additional charge or separate arrangements depending on the waste involved.

Asbestos must not be mixed into a general waste skip and requires specialist arrangements.

What Cannot Go in a Standard 10 Yard Skip?

Hazardous and prohibited materials must remain outside a standard skip. Examples include:

• Gas cylinders
• Tyres
• Clinical or medical waste
• Oil
• Solvents
• Liquids
• Hazardous or toxic substances
• Food waste

Choosing between these two sizes is not simply a question of whether you would like more room. The type of waste matters just as much.

For heavy building and landscaping materials, the 8 yard skip may be the more appropriate option. For a large volume of lighter household, commercial or clearance waste, the 10 yard skip gives you additional capacity without immediately moving to one of our very largest containers.

Don't Confuse Available Space With Available Weight

A 10 yard skip may still have visible room remaining while approaching its permitted weight. This is why it is important to tell us what you intend to dispose of rather than simply ordering based on the physical size of the waste pile.
