Our 12 cubic yard skip is built for jobs where the biggest challenge is the sheer volume of waste. It gives you considerably more loading space than a traditional builder's skip and is particularly useful for substantial property clearances, office refits, shop clear-outs and projects producing large quantities of bulky but relatively lightweight materials.

This is one of the larger skips in our range, so choosing it should be based on both the amount and the type of waste you have. A 12 yard skip offers plenty of volume, but its two-tonne weight limit means it is not intended to be filled with dense materials such as soil, hardcore, bricks or concrete.

What Does 12 Cubic Yards Look Like in Real Life?

For most customers, "12 cubic yards" is not an especially useful way to picture a skip. A better mental comparison is approximately 100 to 120 standard household bin bags of suitable waste.

That is enough capacity to make a real difference on large clearances. Bulky furniture, packaging, timber, cupboards, shop fittings and general household or commercial rubbish can fill conventional builder's skips remarkably quickly. The 12 yard skip gives you more room for those high-volume materials.

The bin-bag figure is an approximate guide rather than a guaranteed loading quantity. A dismantled wardrobe, stacks of cardboard and loose garden cuttings all occupy the available space differently.

A 12 Yard Skip Is Best for Bulky Waste

This skip comes into its own when you have a lot of material without an equally large amount of weight. Typical projects include:

Can I Put Soil, Concrete and Rubble in a 12 Yard Skip?

Do not plan to fill a 12 yard skip with heavy inert waste. Although the container has plenty of physical space, materials such as soil, concrete, bricks and hardcore become extremely heavy long before that space has been used.

Our 12 yard skip is subject to a two-tonne weight limit. If your project mainly involves heavy building or landscaping waste, a smaller skip designed for dense loads is normally a more sensible choice.

For example, our 8 cubic yard skip is a better size to discuss with us when your waste consists primarily of suitable rubble, hardcore, bricks or soil.

Tell us what you are disposing of when you book. The largest skip is not automatically the right skip when the waste itself is particularly heavy.

How Big Is a 12 Yard Skip?

A 12 yard skip is a large container and needs considerably more room than our mini, midi and standard builder's skips. It is therefore worth checking the proposed position carefully before ordering.

Will a 12 Yard Skip Fit on a Domestic Driveway?

It can fit on some larger private driveways, but this is not a skip size where we would assume that every ordinary driveway will be suitable.

You need enough space for the container itself and, crucially, enough access for our delivery vehicle to position and collect it. Narrow entrances, gateposts, parked cars, trees, overhead cables, walls and restricted turning space can all affect delivery.

What Can I Put in a 12 Cubic Yard Skip?

Subject to the agreed waste type and two-tonne limit, this skip works particularly well for non-hazardous materials that take up plenty of room without being excessively dense.

What About Garden Waste?

A 12 yard skip can be useful for bulky garden materials such as branches, hedge cuttings and other suitable green waste. The distinction to remember is between bulky garden waste and heavy landscaping waste.

Large volumes of soil, broken paving, concrete and hardcore can quickly breach the weight limit, even when there is still plenty of visible room in the skip.

Some Items Need to Be Agreed Before Loading

Certain materials require separate processing, an additional charge or prior agreement. Please talk to us before putting items such as the following into the skip:

• Plasterboard
• Mattresses
• Televisions and monitors
• Computers and electrical equipment
• Fridges and freezers
• Car batteries

Asbestos requires specialist arrangements and must not simply be mixed with ordinary waste in a general skip.

Prohibited Waste

A standard 12 yard skip must not contain hazardous or prohibited materials such as:

• Gas cylinders
• Tyres
• Clinical or medical waste
• Oil
• Solvents
• Liquids
• Hazardous or toxic chemicals
• Food waste

Why the Two-Tonne Limit Matters

The 12 yard skip illustrates why skip capacity cannot be judged on volume alone. You may still be able to see plenty of unused space while the load is already approaching its permitted weight.

For that reason, tell us what type of rubbish your project will generate when you request a quote. If we know you are clearing furniture and packaging, for example, that is very different from being told the skip will contain masonry and soil.

Additional charges apply if the two-tonne limit is exceeded.

Never Fill Above the Sides

The larger the skip, the more tempting it can be to squeeze in a few extra bulky items at the end of a project. However, waste must remain within the height of the skip walls so the load can be transported safely.

Should You Choose a 10 or 12 Yard Skip?

The difference is mainly useful when your project involves a genuinely large quantity of lighter waste. A 10 cubic yard skip already gives substantial capacity for clearances and bulky rubbish.

Move up to the 12 yard skip when you expect the extra volume to be useful for a particularly large property clearance, office refit, shop clearance or similar project. If the waste pile is heavy rather than simply bulky, moving to a larger container may actually be the wrong decision.
