14 Cubic Yard Skip
Our 14 cubic yard skip is the largest standard skip available from Taylors Skip Hire. This is the option to consider when your project is producing a very large volume of bulky waste and smaller skips simply do not provide enough room.
Its strength is capacity rather than carrying extremely heavy materials. The 14 yard skip is particularly useful for large house clearances, office and commercial clear-outs, shop refits, furniture removal and projects producing substantial quantities of timber, packaging and other comparatively lightweight waste.
How Much Can a 14 Yard Skip Hold?
A useful way to picture the capacity is approximately 120 to 140 standard household bin bags of suitable waste.
That makes this a substantial step up from an ordinary builder's skip. If you are emptying several rooms, clearing commercial premises or disposing of large quantities of bulky material, the extra space can reduce the need for multiple smaller skip exchanges.
As always, the bin-bag comparison is approximate. A skip containing dismantled furniture will fill differently from one loaded with timber, cardboard or bags of general rubbish.
The Biggest Skip Is Not for the Heaviest Waste
One of the most important things to understand about a 14 yard skip is that more volume does not mean you can load more heavy material.
Our 14 cubic yard skip has a two-tonne weight limit. Filling a container of this size with soil, concrete, bricks or hardcore could exceed that limit long before the skip itself looked full.
For this reason, the 14 yard skip should primarily be regarded as a large-capacity skip for lighter and bulky waste.
What Projects Suit a 14 Cubic Yard Skip?
This size becomes useful when the job involves a lot of physical material without a correspondingly high overall weight. Typical examples include:
- Large house and property clearances
- Office clear-outs and refurbishments
- Commercial property clearances
- Shop fitting and strip-out waste
- Furniture and bulky household contents
- Warehouse or storage-area clear-outs
- Large quantities of timber
- Cardboard and packaging
- Suitable lightweight renovation waste
- General non-hazardous commercial rubbish
For commercial premises that need emptying rather than simply providing a container for staff to load, our commercial clearance services may also be useful.
Can Heavy Construction Waste Go in a 14 Yard Skip?
The current size of this skip makes it tempting to think of it as the obvious option for a major building project, but that depends entirely on the type of waste being generated.
Do not plan to fill a 14 yard skip with soil, rubble, concrete, bricks or hardcore. These dense materials can make such a large container too heavy for safe and legal transport.
If your project is primarily producing heavy construction or landscaping waste, speak to us about a smaller container. Our 8 cubic yard skip is the larger standard skip to discuss with us for suitable heavy loads.
For larger construction projects requiring ongoing waste management, you can also ask about our construction waste removal services.
How Large Is a 14 Yard Skip?
A 14 yard skip is a substantial container, so access and available space need to be checked carefully before booking. It requires considerably more room than a mini, midi or standard builder's skip.
As an industry comparison, many 14 yard skips are roughly 4 metres long, around 1.8 metres wide and approximately 1.7 to 1.8 metres high. However, dimensions vary between manufacturers, so we recommend confirming the measurements of the actual Taylors container before displaying exact figures on this page.
Will a 14 Yard Skip Fit on a Driveway?
Some large domestic driveways can accommodate a 14 yard skip, but this size is especially well suited to commercial yards, larger properties and sites with generous off-road space.
Remember that the delivery lorry needs substantially more room than the container itself. Access must allow the vehicle to position and retrieve the skip without obstruction.
Consider:
- Driveway and entrance width
- Gateposts and boundary walls
- Parked vehicles
- Overhead cables
- Low branches
- Available turning and manoeuvring space
Our skip delivery preparation guide explains what to check. With a container this large, we strongly recommend speaking to us if there is any uncertainty about access.
What Can You Put in a 14 Yard Skip?
Subject to the agreed waste type and two-tonne limit, suitable materials can include:
- General household rubbish
- Furniture
- Dismantled cupboards and wardrobes
- Wood and timber
- Cardboard and packaging
- Office furniture and clearance waste
- Shop fittings
- Suitable light garden waste
- Non-hazardous commercial rubbish
- Suitable lightweight refurbishment waste
For large domestic projects, our residential and domestic clearance service offers another way to deal with bulky household contents without loading the skip yourself.
Garden Waste: Think Branches, Not Tonnes of Soil
A 14 yard skip can provide useful capacity for bulky green waste such as branches, hedge cuttings and suitable vegetation. Heavy landscaping materials are a different matter.
Large quantities of soil, paving, concrete and hardcore can exceed the two-tonne limit very quickly. If your garden project involves excavation or hard landscaping, tell us exactly what materials you expect to produce before choosing a skip size.
You can also use our garden removal service if you would prefer the waste to be collected.
Restricted Items Need Prior Agreement
Some waste requires separate arrangements, specialist processing or additional charges. Please speak to us before putting items such as the following into the skip:
- Plasterboard
- Mattresses
- Fridges and freezers
- Televisions and monitors
- Computers and other electrical equipment
- Car batteries
Asbestos requires specialist arrangements and must not be mixed with ordinary waste.
What Cannot Go in a Standard 14 Yard Skip?
Prohibited and hazardous materials include:
- Gas cylinders
- Tyres
- Clinical or medical waste
- Oil
- Solvents
- Liquids
- Hazardous or toxic substances
- Food waste
Before disposing of anything unusual, check our guide to what rubbish you can put in a skip or contact our team for advice.
Why Weight Matters More at This Size
A 14 yard container can look half empty and still contain a considerable amount of weight. That is why we need to know what you intend to load rather than simply how large your waste pile appears.
The hire price includes a two-tonne weight allowance. Additional charges apply when the collected skip exceeds this limit.
Waste must also remain level with the sides. Do not use the skip's large dimensions as an excuse to heap rubbish above the walls. Our overloaded skip guide explains the collection and safety problems this can cause.
12 Yard or 14 Yard Skip?
If your waste is suitable for a large lightweight-waste skip, the decision between these sizes comes down mainly to volume.
Our 12 cubic yard skip already provides substantial capacity for house clearances, furniture and commercial waste. The 14 yard skip is worth considering when you expect an especially large quantity and have enough room on-site for the bigger container.
If you are estimating rather than measuring your waste, our guide to choosing the right skip can help.
14 Yard Skip Hire in Surrey and Sussex
We provide large skip hire throughout our regular service area, including Crawley, Redhill, Reigate, Horley, East Grinstead and Banstead, together with many surrounding areas.
For projects where a very large skip is inconvenient, our rubbish removal services may provide a more practical alternative.
Responsible Waste Processing
Once collected, suitable materials are separated and recycled wherever possible. This helps recover useful resources and reduce the quantity of waste requiring final disposal.
